Progressive online jackpot slots 2017

Published by Thisbe Savva, 2017-01-15

In this article we are going to discuss what progressive jackpots are, a couple of them that already exist and a new one that is coming in 2017.

When we talk about progressive jackpots in the casino world, we usually refer to a slot, where part of the bets placed goes towards building up a big and juicy jackpot prize. The jackpots can be local to the casino, local to the region, or they can be global, also called pooled jackpots. Many of our most popular jackpot slots have one or more pooled jackpots, and some also have one or two additional local ones.

New jackpot slot coming up

NetEnt is in fact preparing to release a brand new jackpot slot and it will hit our new slot sites 2017 (as well as the old sites of course), the 24th of January 2017. This time it will be a slot with three jackpots, where the Mega Jackpot most probably will be a pooled pot. The theme is set in ancient Greece, and features Medusa that we know from other online slots will be visiting our reels again. What awaits us is 5 reels, and 3 row slots, with 20 fixed paylines.

From what we understand, the RTP will be set to 96.6%. This number includes the jackpots, so we would consider it a bit high. But for the time being we do not have the RTP without the jackpot. However, it is likely to land somewhere around 89% where the progressive slots usually lie. Rumor has it, that the hit frequency of the jackpot will be around 20%, but we will come back to all of this when we write our in depth review in the near future.

NetEnt already has several big hits on the jackpot lists, with perhaps the most popular being Mega Fortune. This is closely followed by the revamped version of it called Mega Fortune Dreams, Hall of Gods, Arabian Nights and a few smaller jackpots.

Mega Fortune from NetEnt, and Mega Moolah from Microgaming are the two big rivaling jackpots

One of the two being number one on the top list one minute, and the other one the next, it usually depends on which one of the two has the biggest jackpot at the time. Both of them are world record holders for the biggest online jackpot prize paid. Mega Fortune set the first record in 2013 with a payout of €17.8 million. But in 2015, the record was beaten by Mega Moolah. The old record was beaten with just over fifteen thousand pounds.

A combined jackpot pool

Speaking of Mega Moolah, Microgaming has cleverly created a network for Mega Moolah, Mega Moolah Isis and The Dark Knight in a way that enables you to play any of the three slots, and still have the chance to win the big fat progressive jackpot prize of Mega Moolah. This way you can play for the big prize, but still get some variation and change.

It might sound like there are no other game developers out there with progressive slots. However, this is not so, but it is the slots from NetEnt and Microgaming that are the most popular ones.

More progressive jackpots

Another game developer with progressive jackpot slots that you should take a look at if you like to play for the big wins is Yggdrasil. Yggdrasil has three progressive jackpots in the portfolio. These are Joker Millions, which was the first progressive slot from Yggdrasil, Empire Fortune with a global jackpot, and Holmes and the Stolen Stones with three local jackpots.

Play’N Go have several progressive slots in their portfolio, but it doesn’t look like they have quite hit the spot with the players in this genre, the same way that they do with some of their regular slots.
