Brace yourself because the evil penguin emperor has his beady eyes on you and it’s your job to help these overworked and tired penguins escape from his restaurant. Yggdrasil Gaming has produced a wacky and fun themed game which is pretty out-there, it’s not very often you come across a slot game with the theme of penguins/asian mixed into one.

This slot game has a very movie like opening trailer with a poor penguin fighting for his life in the kitchen, and when you finally get into the game you are surrounded by very therapeutic and calming music which is a great transition.

Straight off the bat this game does not have a plethora of in-game features, however for being such a fun themed game we can appreciate that Yggdrasil wanted to keep it simple, and the features that Penguin City does have are very fun and exciting including the Penguin Escape Mode and the Emperor Wild.

Getting started on this asian themed slot game is very easy. Penguin City has 5 reels and win all ways meaning 243 paylines in total. This gives you plenty of ways to win and plenty of opportunities to trigger the features in the game. Before you get too excited and save all of those penguins at once it would be wise to adjust your betting limits and you can do this by using the Coin Value tab at the bottom of the game grid.

Symbols

There are some very beautiful symbols included in this slot game, and since it is an Asian themed layout we are pleased to see some delicious looking noodle dishes, ramen, soy sauce and then Yggdrasil has also included some classic symbols such as clubs and hearts.

It’s funny to wonder how they thought of the idea of having a penguin in this game, it seems pretty random but it actually works and reminds us a little bit of the movie Kung Fu Panda. Perhaps they took some inspiration from this movie and added their own little Yggdrasil twist on it casino-style.

In order to activate the Penguin Escape mode you will need to have a lucky win on a Wild symbol during the main game. When this feature has been triggered 1 of the penguins will try to escape on each spin unless the Stacked Emperor Wild is present on the reels as he wants to avoid him at any cost!

If the penguin manages to successfully jump onto the reels then there are two outcomes

One of which is that 1 Sticky Wild symbol will be added to reels 2 or 4 on a winning spin, and the second outcome is that 1 symbol will be swapped on reel 3 in order to create a win on a losing spin. Hopefully your tired and overworked penguin will be able to escape however if they do not and they fall off the reels then don’t worry because nothing on your reels will change and you can just try again on the next feature trigger.

On the Penguin Escape mode feature make sure that you don’t increase your bet size or adjust anything whilst it is playing as this will end the feature and you will have to wait for another lucky win on a Wild symbol to play again.

The Stacked Emperor Wild symbol is a large symbol with the evil emperor on it holding two very scary looking knives. This symbol can appear on the 3rd reel on the Penguin Escape mode and he is made up of 3 Stacked Wild symbols. When the Stacked Emperor Wild lands on your reels you are absolutely guaranteed a win even if it’s not the full symbol in view. This symbol will move down one reel position during each and every spin until he fully disappears from the reels, but the only downside of this symbol is that the penguins do not dare to try and escape whilst he is present!

The other Wild symbols in the game can substitute all regular symbols, and when there is a win on a regular Wild symbol it will end up sticking on the reels for the consecutive spin. In penguin City, the Wild symbols play a vital role in the game, and even though there are not that many features in this game it is definitely worth trying out because the two features it does have are very exciting and pretty easily triggered compared to other online slots.
