Children can no longer be tempted by casino characters - New regulations put in place in the UK

Published by Thisbe Savva, 14 November 2017

There has been a little bit of uproar and uneasiness throughout the online casinos in the UK. If you put your thinking cap on for a little bit you might realize that some of our well known UK casinos seem to have quite a ‘childish’ feel.

The bright colours and funny looking characters may appeal to children and this is an important factor to think about

The British regulators of online casinos in the UK have ordered over 450 gambling sites to remove specific casino games right away. This is an order where there are no excuses, and no way of getting out of it. I think that something like this could be seen in two shades of light, one being that kids should not really be looking at online casinos anyway, but two being that sometimes it can be hard to avoid if there are advertisements on the tv. I think that the British regulators are doing a good thing by avoiding any damage before it starts.

Colours and graphics that attract children

Children have a keen eye for colour and cute characters, and this is a factor that most likely proved to be the main issue with online casinos having very child relatable characters and layouts. From now on, all gambling sites throughout the UK have been ordered to remove any slot games which target the eye of under 18’s because it could indeed be a sticky situation if you are a casino player and you nip to the toilet and before you know it your child has been spinning with a £100 pound bet.

I think that this regulation will help out a lot of the online casino community, and even though it may mean that we will loose some of our favourite casino games, in the long run it will be a solid solution for those hiccups that may occur.

Free play - a big issue

The main reason in why this regulation only popped up now was because new slot sites and old slot sites were very compliant in making sure that you could only access and play for real money if you were over 18, however the issue was with the free play. Any old soul could head over to a casino site and play for free without needing any details of their age, or bank account, and this is where kids could easily end up in the wrong place at the wrong time when dad’s playing on his favourite slottie.

It’s a good thing that this issue is getting cleaned up, and the British regulatory department are on it!

We can sleep safely knowing that any frustrating situations will be avoided, and finally, it’s time to get back to playing on our best casino websites and start spinning on some of those new video slots that have just dropped!
