Lately, girl power has been on full throttle with all of the latest sexual assault allegations and what have you, it was only right that we talked about women power in the gaming world with the Women in Gaming Diversity Awards coming up. For the past 8 years the WiG Awards have been taking place, and even though it may sound slightly on the sexist side, it is not. This award ceremony is to support gender equality, and create a positive and progressive world where gender does not define where you work, what you do, and how much you get paid. This years awards will be extra special, as 2018 marks the 100 year anniversary of when women living in the UK were legally allowed to vote. If you think about it, it really hasn’t been that long, 100 years flies by and look how much the world has progressed in terms of gender equality and neutral standards.

One of our top Swedish casino slots specialist, Play’n Go are taking part in this years ceremony as they have been recognised and congratulated for their excellent diversity of their female staff members! Swedes are very well known for their diversity and gender equality, so this comes as no surprise that they would be nominated in the Women in Gaming Awards. To be exact, they do not only have just one nomination, Play’n Go are currently up for 7 nominations and are currently on the shortlist for other awards from various different categories! To list a few of the WiG categories in which they are shortlisted for are Employee of the Year, Industry Achiever, Leader of the Year, and Hidden Talent of the Year. It seems as though it will be a very exciting year for Play’n Go in the WiG Awards.

Last year Play’n Go won the Diversity Award, so to have so many more nominations this year is even more exciting and it would be wonderful to have another reason to celebrate. The CEO of Play’n Go, Johan Tornqvist said: “ I’d like to congratulate not just the many individuals who’ve been nominated for a 2018 Women in Gaming award, but also all of those within our organisation who continue to shape our culture for the better and go above and beyond. At Play’n Go, we want to make sure we build a culture that is suited to both men and women, and although a large proportion of our workforce is female, there’s more we can do to ensure diversity and inclusivity is entrenched in every level of our hierarchy.”

This years sponsors for the WiG Awards include a few of our favourite slot providers such as Microgaming, and Play’n Go, along with one of the best UK casinos, Video Slots casino as a sponsor. The WiG Awards will be taking place on the 11th of May 2018 in London, so for now we just have to hold in all of that excitement and wait to hear who wins! It’s a really wonderful thing to see just how fast the world evolves and changes with women and men becoming more and more equal and much more awareness nowadays just as it should be.
