Review of Matsuri

Let the magnificently bright shining Japanese lights take you away on a journey to a Matsuri festival, this is what this Play’N Go video slot is based on. In Japanese, Matsuri means festival or holiday, and as you can most likely imagine, the Japanese spare no expense in their beautiful festivals and celebrations. Why not take yourself on a journey to Japan where you can enjoy the stunning matsuri surroundings from the comfort of your own home by playing on the Play’N Go slot game.

Yeah ok, it’s not really the same thing as travelling around the world and seeing it in person, however if you are one for staying at home in your comfort zone, then this is a good way of weaselling out of travelling! There are so many Bonus games and features in Matsuri video slot that you definitely wouldn’t get to play if you were travelling anyway, so this is a win-win situation in our opinion. We really enjoyed playing this game mostly because the symbols throughout the game are very vivid and beautifully illustrated. One little irritating factor for us was that they could have slightly improved the symbols by changing the contrast of background and symbols, mostly because it does feel a little bit like they all blend together and there’s no real contrast of colour.

Specifically we are talking about the Scatter symbols with the traditional Japanese girls on them, these are the ones which can feel a little bit difficult to see. Anyway, we are definitely not putting a damper on the game because it is a fantastic game, but as usual we want to give you our two cents. Other than that, the music, the soundtrack and the scenery of this slot is outstanding, and the bonus features are so creative. The sound effects when you have hit a win are fantastic, you are able to hear a drum, some traditional Japanese instruments, and even a firework sound. It really is lovely.

How To Play

Before spinning in this Japanese festival themed extravaganza you are advised to adjust your bet just to make sure you are heading the right way on your Matsuri journey. If you look at the bottom of the grid you will see the available bets, and you can easily decide how much you’d like to bet and make your selection from there. Matsuri slot features 5 reels and 25 paylines that are fixed.

There are a selection of symbols featured, such as the traditional Japanese shredded ice treat, a Japanese fan, some other candy treats, images of Japanese girls and the Wild symbol is a beautiful lantern. As mentioned previously It did feel as though some of the symbols didn’t contrast so well together in combination with the background, however the more we played, the more we enjoyed it, so it just comes down to personal preference. You can decide for yourselves.

Free Spins Feature

In order to activate the Free Spins feature you must win 3 or more of the Matsuri mask symbols. The Matsuri masks are no doubt one of the best symbols in the game because they really stand out and look authentic. Did you know that this type of mask is very popular to wear during festivals in Japan? It would be so nice to get the chance to see one of these colourful festivals live in the flesh at some point, one can only dream right? With each extra mask during this feature, you will get 2 more spins. The Free Spins feature can be re-triggered and you can end up with a total of 20 Free Spins!

The Free Spins feature can be re-triggered and you can end up with a total of 20 Free Spins!

Festival Bonus Game

If a Wild symbol happens to land on one of your reels during the Free Spins feature, it will turn into a huge banner of lamps that will end up covering the entire reel. This symbol substitutes for all symbols except Scatter. The banner will move to the left with every single spin until it completely disappears from the game area. This is a really exciting feature in Matsuri and it’s our personal favourite because the banner of lamps fills the whole game reels and with each spin you are anticipating what will happen.

Kingyo Sukui Bonus Game

The Kingyo Sukui bonus game can be triggered by landing 3 Bonus Scatter symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4. The Bonus Scatter symbols in this game are the goldfish, they play a big role in this bonus game because during the feature you must collect goldfish by scooping them with a paper spoon.

Each goldfish holds a prize when you catch it, so you must keep picking up goldfish until there’s no more, or until your paper spoon breaks! We loved playing the Kingyo Sukui Bonus game because you never know when the paper net is going to break whilst you are collecting prizes. Play’ N Go added this feature into the game simply because it's well known that goldfish are very important in Japanese culture, and they are always present in festivals and celebrations.
